Course Overview

This 9-week course was executed across 27 class dates of 43 minutes each (Tuesday and Thursday). There are nine interconnected modules that expound upon NASEF’s baseline formula of four general study topic domains that feed into fifteen distinct kinds of careers, all of which support the Players (typically thought to be the center of the e-Sports world). This program does not focus on video game titles in particular, nor does it seek to improve a student’s gameplay skills or aspirations to join competitive leagues. This program’s roots are firmly grounded in academic theory, learning outcomes and measurable scholastic improvement. The diagram below provides a visual explanation of the four general categories and their itinerant career focuses:

9-Week Program Details

What follows is an outline of each of the nine weeks of the pilot program, with details of lesson planning for each class session in a given week. An eighteen (18) week, semester-long program is achieved by adding a second week to each of the nine weeks, which will allow educators to dive deeply with students into the e-Sports + disciplinary core idea + career technical education components.

There are both in-class collaborative and personal, introspective assignments, as well as “homework” assigned during the pilot. Further, a summative exercise that will be designed, revised, managed and executed by all class participants will showcase learning outcomes and newly developed or refined skills that were achieved during the pilot session.
